Ultimate Slam Slam

I grew up in Stone Harbor, New Jersey and started Marlin fishing with my uncle when I was nine years old.  I have been gut hooked ever since.  That same year dad took me duck hunting in the marsh behind the house, again, gut hooked also to this day.  After high school I went to North Carolina to taxidermy school.  After graduating returned home to complete Maritime training school to get my Captain’s license while working on my uncle’s lobster boat.  For many years I was a commercial fisherman.  I had two different taxidermy businesses, one in New Jersey, the other in Virginia.  I just do some of my own work now.  I have run sport fishing boats since 1982 from Cape May, Palm Beach and the Bahamas.  I still run a 52 foot Viking out of Cape May, New Jersey.  Through my fishing career, I have physically caught every billfish accept for the black marlin, still on my bucket list. Having completed several turkey slams, I still want the Gould’s for the Royal Slam.  I have completed the North American Grand Slam of Waterfowl, talk about challenging!  My goal with waterfowl is to have every bird, not just the 40 that make the slam.  I am aware of about 20 more and I have already collected five.  Some of the remaining will be more like expeditions.  I have 5 of the Super Slam 10 and all the deer but one, which is booked next month.  I will complete the Super Slam 10 and the Ultimate Whitetail Grand Slam.  My goal is to continue and achieve the Super Slam 29 also.  I am a professional fisherman who always wanted to be a professional hunter.  As all can see, I have a passion for Grand Slams.

Northwestern Whitetail

What can you say, Big Sky Country.  Alaska is my favorite state to hunt but Montana is right up there.  I have never had a bad time or hunt in Montana.  I have hunted Elk on the Musselshell River and Missouri Breaks as well as Mountain Lion near Helena.  This particular hunt is one I could do every year.  The outfitter and guide were second to none.  We saw a lot of deer and many good mature shooter bucks.

I have hunted many years to harvest a good Gulf Coast Region buck but have only seen six pointers or less.  My hunts have been In the Apalachicola area and Blountstown area of the Florida pan handle.  January and February is the rut and one year I froze my butt off.  This is my first deer hunt in Texas.  Cattle and oil wells everywhere on this ranch and it was ten miles long, what a beautiful place.  I finally put my hands on a good gulf coast region buck.  Pretty sure it was a ten point before he broke his rack.

Seminole Whitetail

I am back to Florida for a Seminole Deer for the fourth time.  Too much rain has been the primary problem and by all means never forget your Thermocell.  This time I am back to Lakeport right next to Lake Okeechobee where I completed my turkey slams a few years ago.  It was October 14th, 92 degrees was the high this day and these deer are in rut.  Half hour of shooting light left I saw a hot doe come out of this pond that was consumed with hydrilla and torpedo grass.  She had two bucks following and fighting for her.  I’m sure the six point buck was very happy when he heard the shot.
